Først vil én af Danmarks bedste human beatboxere, Beatboy a.k.a.

(Excuse us foreigners and other good-folks, for this text is still in Danish. This event is for you also—two of this evenings events are in English.)
DATE: Wednesday, March 28, 2007
TIME: 19:00-23:00
PLACE: LAB, Vesterbrogade 107b, the backyard

Uden Ungeren - ingen Lab

Subjex
Subjex is a nice boy who never sleeps, never eats, never watches
television, doesn't go to the hottest night clubs but who smokes, drinks
and talks too much about music software.. He likes bad jokes and music
that makes a lot of noise.
Having grown up in a noisy environment, his brain suffered many injuries
and so today he is incapable of composing house garage vocal or trance...
by pure opportunism he has turned to an environment where his musical
dyslexia will not shame him and is composing these things that we call
pieces containing loud and sometimes disorganized rhythms accentuated with
synthetic chuckles and digital cracks... sometimes its cheery, sometimes
morbid, c'est la vie!
What else can we say except that everything is done with a PC, because
it's cheaper and it works pretty well. That's why he thought it would be
best to make some friends and put them in a collective group which mixes
with nary a care numerical arts and electronic music under the very catchy
name of Bedroom Research.

Karsten Pflum
Inspired equally by 80's synth pop, Detroit techno and Nordic folkmusic,
Karsten Pflum started experimenting with old synths and sequencers in the
middle of the 90's. In the summer of 2000 he got signed to the English label Worm Interface,
who released his first 7" and CD album "Tracks".
After being exposed to audiences around Europe, the sincere and thoughtful
ambient quality that signified his earlier work, gradually became harder
with more rhythmical edge.
The result of this was the "Dogcatcher EP", released on the Danish label
Tender Productions in 2004.
The EP was airplayed on BBC's John Peel Show and Breezeblock, and was
followed by intensive touring, both solo and in constellation with other
artists, e.g. The Europussy band, which consisted of Karsten Pflum, Bjørn
Svin, Jonas Olesen and Åsmund Kverneland (Flex).
Karsten Plfum's concerts evolved and became more humoristic and
dancefloor-orientated, and with the release of "Flugten Fra År 2000", on
Jenka Music, he conquered the position as Scandinavia's uncrowned king of
drill'n'bass.
What signifies Karsten Pflum's work, from "Tracks" up until today, is his
playful and anarchistic approach to making music.
Despite his eclectic way of composing, his sound is always easy to
recognize because of the ever present melancholy and warm melodic
atmosphere? In the fall of 2005, Karsten Pflum began studying electronic
music at the Danish music academy, and he is currently working on his
third album, due to be released on Rump in the fall of 2006?

Komponent has put together an overwhelming programme for the first out-and-out breakcore event in Denmark. The two trustees behind the breakcore events Wasted I and II in Berlin, Jason Forrest and Pure, are invited as the main names along with alot of other artists.
Since Komponent discovered the first Wasted event during this years Club Transmediale festival in Berlin, we have wanted to make a similar event in Copenhagen. Therefore it seemed natural to invite Jason Forrest and Pure. The fact that Jason Forrest has just released a new record just makes this event more interesting.
American Jason Forrest (aka Donna Summer) has, if any, redefined breakcore with his releases on the german label Sonig together with a string of pearls on his on label Cock Rock Disco. With humour and distorted beats this just rocks!
Austrian Pure has had a long career in electronic music. His music varies from ambient releases on label Mego to more noisy up-beat once at Praxis. His dj-set this night will reflect the last-named. Like this his latest release on Praxis is called "Bodyhammer".
Your local blast provider Komponent are privileged to present Puzzleweasel, who has released on both american Tigerbeat6 and Danish Jenka Music, Pol mod Pol from Noisejihad, fl/ex'o, The All Core and The Renegades of the Game Boxen. With short intensive sets these 5 will give their max power.
This event is supported by København Kulturfond and Subotnick.

Komponent 77: Determined Restrain - a Phono Erotic night

ENTRANCE: DKK 40,-
This night Komponent introduces London based label Phono Erotic. The back bone of Phono Erotic consist of Kirsten Reynolds and Ashley Davies. Together with a number of other musicians they play in Project Dark, Dirthole, K&A og None and it's the two latter who represent the label this night.
K&A
K&A's new show, Sonic Knitwear presents the ex-model duo Kirsten Reynolds and Ashley Davies in playful spirits. K&A explore the musical qualities of analogue (ie pre-digital) drum machines, stripping away the stability of the beat and programming, reducing it to a basic sound source and sending it on an assault course of noise, dub, distortion and psychiatric evaluation until calm serenity is found... maybe.
A stunning visual backdrop takes a playfully cynical look at the fabric of society, wryly observing the layers of taste and style presented as high class and high street fashion, soft furnishings and catalogue glamour.
A new release also entitled 'Sonic Knitwear' will be available shortly on the PHONO EROTIC label. Tracks include 'Cycle Clips' an intriguing cover version of an up-tempo, track by top pop act and fellow Londoners POMMAGNE.
K&A is Kirsten Reynolds and Ashley Davies (aka Project Dark), who have for several years pulled apart the notion of the record player deck and 7" single format, leaving a trail of released curiosities, multiple prominent festival appearances and a myriad of possibilities...
NONE
NONE is a new project from the PHONO EROTIC Records stable.
The music created by NONE is unapologetically intense, with mood-swings, falling masonry and shattered glass emanating from percussion, tone generator and self-made instruments. Vocals invoke another sharp dimension of dementia.
The overall picture painted by NONE is of a long walk through England's ancient paths, littered with the debris of a thousand unexplained numinous incidents and the hubris of the industrial revolution. A confusion between time, reality, decay, hope and acquiescence.
Andrea Croce - vocals
Ashley Davies - tone generator, bass
Kirsten Reynolds - percussion, electronics
Rob Lewis - percussion, electronics

Carsten Nicolai aka Alva Noto plays music of the future. Once again Komponent invites one of the trendsetting personalities within electronic music. With his base in Berlin, Carsten Nicolai has played and exhibited the greatest stages and scenes round the world. His music can be described as "posthuman funk". Carsten Nicolai does not stick to traditional music genres. He can make noisy elements sound like hip-hop and R&B, and brings experimental music one step closer to the club scene.
http://noton.raster-noton.de/
Danish Pixel has also released on raster-noton, the same label as Carsten Nicolai. In a wonderful way Pixel mixes noise and harmony so giving birth to delicious music.
http://www.raster-noton.de/
Norwegian fl/ex'0 plays unrefined noise but are not afraid to use rhythm and melody in his music.
http://flex.menneske.dk/
Danish Opiate aka Thomas Knak has project opto together with Carsten Nicolai which will propably not be performed on this night. But maybe we get a taste of it.

Komponent presents:
A fantastic dobble-event on Saturday, May 14
On Saturday the 14th of May Komponent will curtain up for the most ambitious concert programme within the COMABE-project.
With a total of 16 events COMABE puts focus on musicians seated in Berlin, Copenhagen and Malmö.
Read more about COMABE at http://comabe.komponent.dk/
The programme is packed with fantastic live acts, which normally can only be seen on the big international festivals. This is a unique oppurtunity to get intimate with the music at two of the smaller stages in Copenhagen.
At the concerts on May 14 Komponent has chosen to focus on some international musicians from the music-mekka Berlin. Finish Vladislav Delay aka Luomo
and canadian Jake Fairley are among the prominent electronic musicians placed in Berlin.
At both events there will be listening-orientated projects from respectively Vladislav Delay and Fairmont, as well as dancable sounds projects from Luomo and Jake Fairley.
The listening-orientated events will take place at LAB and the party will continue at the new Copenhagen club Culture Box.
To create a unified whole Komponent has invited the Malmö-label Komplott from where All Spec Kit has just made his debut. Label-boss Frans Gillberg will dj through the night.
At Culture Box Komponent has invited the thrilling Danish label Statler and Waldorf. Pellarin will start the night up for the two main acts. Rasmus Møbius and Kim Lenler will along with Ulf Eriksson aka LFU from Malmö be dj'ing in the bar area.

Adron
Icelandic bourne Toggi and Ívar form the duo 'adron'. We are both from the capital, Reykjavik. Our music can best be described as powerfull and strangely atractive, with hard unnatural like crunchy rhythm and atrmospheric.
http://www.techno.is/english/index2.html
Cerebellum
Two danish emmigrants from the dark corners of Jutland residing in Copenhagen during the last 5 years. Fartin' out an electronic blend of dust, street talking and injured small animals eating old vegetables. We do the DUB, we do the ROCK, we do the on-the-feet POP. Most of all we just like my old spoiled TV.
http://www.lohde.dk/
Frantz Flottenheimer
Behind the name Frantz Flotenheimer is a young man, 25 years of age, that
makes music on his computer with great affection!
His sound is best described as a combination of bulging basslines, klumsy
rhytmes and high bleeding frekvencies.
Markus von Platen
Markus von Platen has been producing different styles of electronic music over the past 4 years.
The combination of noise, drum sounds and synthesizers, makes a chilled mixture of abstractive rhytems and melodies.
Peter Jørgensen
Peter Jørgensen concentrates his work around timbre, pulse, intimacy and simplicity.
The intersection of the structured composition and the spontaneous is essential.
Based in Copenhagen Peter also works with filmdirector Morten Meldgaard.
Streamband
The framework for Streambands musical communication is expressed through improvisation where we interconnect hiphop, jazz, elektronica and drones. By this, our intention is to permit space for one another in a large variety of beats, melodies, timbres and soundscapes.
The 5 musicians are Thomas Steen, Mikkel Meyer, Thor Sørensen, Henrik Sundh & Søren helvildt Raagaard, playing on laptops, controllers, keyboards, samplers and homemade devices.
Streamband is a live streaming project.

Søren Lemmike
Is 27 years old and from Copenhagen, Denmark. He played guitar in
various bands during the last 10 years. He started making electronic
music on the computer about 6 years ago. His music is a mix of different
styles such as dub, clicks n cuts, breakbeat, drum n bass. The music is
made using sampled and synthesized sounds as well as live instruments.

MODESELEKTOR
Actually MODESELEKTOR, for those to whom the granulate synthesis and its consequences is still unknown. It could be described this way: in order to construct this music, one takes a sound, files away at it until a thousand bits of "sound dust" are created, compacts and grinds the bits of "sound dust" over and over again and finally slaps the odd shape over the mixture. The next step to understanding MODESELEKTOR is to imagine creaking, grinding beats - depending on the mood either monotonously pounding away or cut in unbelievably cool breaks - and then gently added, classically arranged facets that sprinkle the heavy beats like freshly fallen snow - if you can imagine all that, then you get an impression of what MODESELEKTOR is about: uniting contrasts that one doesn't even realise are contrasts while listening to the music.
The music, played three notches over red on a huge system, blows you away. And, where the bass vibrates the body, you can't help but jump from one leg to the other enthusiastically. That's what they do to you, the Shah of Persia and Faustan (as they are known in the Berlin night life)! They rock and even reflect before. They try to stick to their live gig's "fuck off" (let's have fun even if the computer breaks down and everything gets put into the chaos pad!) not only as private guys but as musicians as well - no conventions, no showing consideration to self adoring scenes and don't even think of being a service person! Be honest, stay honest and show yourself through the music, with all apparent contradictions.

BPITCH CONTROL
The label with the "fernsehturm" as their favourite cover emblem has been introducing diversity to the club society of Berlin since 1997.
The label, created by Ellen Allien, tries to split the technoid-electronic microcosmos of the capital city with the function of being a platform for upcoming artists. Berlin is growing from the important role as one of the cities where techno has been at home the most for the last 10 years. Bpitch Control puts this consequently into practice and leaves its unmistakable marks on techno, hence "made in Berlin".
Bpitch Control considers itself a channel where the collective is the priority and the ideas of every individual have space. Reflection about the sound can become a mirror to the city of Berlin.

OZY
OZY's main output has been THULE RECORDS in Iceland (which often is referred to as BASIC CHANNEL of the north). In 2002 legendary German label FORCE INC. released OZY's debut album "Tokei", placing OZY within their impressive artist rooster that featured some of the most talented and famous electronic acts around. Recently, OZY has started releasing on the wonderful TRAPEZ label in Cologne, music that could best be described as slinky, articulate tech house with certain pop appeal.

Karsten Pflum
Karsten Pflum is the alter ego of Danish Jacob Helverskov Madsen. His music is an ingenious and at times schizophrenic mix of themes from folk music, cunningly cutup rythems, sweet pop intermezzos, and something nombastically teasing. Pflum perpetually examines the borderline between narrative complexity and ambient vastness - underlined by a great deal of humor and irony, where still always caring greatly for his subtleties and details. In 2003 he released his album debut, Tracks, on London label Worm Interface, and in 2004 the 12" Dogcatcher, on Copenhagen label Tender Productions. He has appeared on quite a few compilations, in Denmark and the UK, and his tunes have caught the attention of radio programs such as BBC1's Breezeblock and the John Peel Show several times. Besides this he has been playing live a great deal, around Europe.
On January 31st his new album "Flugten Fra År 2000" is realeased on the Danish label Jenka Music, who among other things drew a great deal of attention when they did a showcase at the Sonar Festival in Barcelona in the summer of 2004. So this night will, apart from his concert, also be celebrating his new realease.

Apeiron:
A project that well describes what D.O.R. is about.
Apeiron began in 2002 after several years of discussion about what it should actually be...
In short, it is a journey into the philosophy of music compositions, where the border between performance and monophonic sounds are created on an Arp 2600.
Apeiron is Ashley Davies (Projekt Dark, Chemical Plant, iD), Jimi Papatzanataes (S.40 Sound Projects, Temple of Sound) and Apotoles Tsopelas (S.40 Sound Projects)
nomadstation:
Robert H. King and his travel companions explore the identity of the spatial sounds that surrounds us, e.g. by using sounds from the city and manipulating recordings from a wide range of variating sound medias.

Murcof
Mexican Murcof a.k.a. Fernando Corona, has several releases to his credit on British label Leaf. His fantastic album "Martes" was named Album of the Year 2002 by several magazines, and his latest 12-inch doesn't disappoint. Murcof blends collages of micro-techno with harmonies borrowed from classical music and choral songs to create a delightfully expressive aural sound.

Ekkehard Ehlers
German musician with a long series of releases behind him on the respected Berlin-based label Staubgold. Ehlers' "plays" series have won particular acclaim. His works refer to various historical personalities, from John Cassavetes to German writer Hubert Fichte. Ehlers most recently released the album "Politik braucht keinen Feind/" on which he manipulates classical instruments and arranges them like an orchestra on his laptop.

Mapstation
Stefan Schneider's solo project Mapstation has provided a melodious example of how minimal techno can sound with a low BPM (beats per minute). Mapstation borrows from Jamaican reggae, expressed in a dubbed sound that provides a solid basis for the group's experimental music. Stefan Schneider also makes music with German group To Rococo Rot and was previously a member of the groundbreaking group Kreidler.

Pixel
Danish Pixel, a.k.a. Jon Egeskov, won raves with last year's debut release "Display" on respected German label raster-noton. Pixel was "discovered" by raster-noton's founder at the Copenhagen Radar festival in 2002. Pixel's classical conservatory background shines through on the new album in his adeptness at mixing melodic phrases with complex structures.

The Renegades of the Game Boxen
Armed with two Gameboys, an old drum machine and a smattering of effects, Austrian kun.stOEJ and Swedish ctrl_alt make beautiful music. With specially programmed software (nanoloop/lsdj), it is now possible to make music on Gameboys, and Renegades of the Game Boxen ingeniously show how the sound of the Gameboys, combined with drum machine loops, can create music that is totally unique and never boring.

WE LOVE SOUND MACHINES: History of electronic devices in modern music
An exhibition of epoch-making electronic sound devices. The exhibition will be attended by musicians and technicians who will talk about the sound machines, and why some them have a special place in their hearts.
In the occasion of this years Radar festival, and due to the fact that Komponent has proclaimed the "Year of the Machines", Komponent is exhibiting a number of electronic instruments from the 20th and 21. Century. Quite a few innovative instruments have characterized the progress of electronic music as well as other genres.
The American audience and critics early showed interest in the Theremin. Later, the tape recorder was introduced, which made cutting and multi- channel editing possible. Kraftwerk would probably never have had the same influence on electronic music if it weren't for their highly advanced studio, filled with large synthesizers and other sound oscillators. The drum machine was the catalyst for the birth of techno, although the drum machine first was developed to aid true eighties phenomenon: the one-man band.
In the recent years, new technology has made it possible for almost anybody to create music on his or her home computer. A whole new genre came into existence because of cheap computers: The laptop- music - A sole person on stage, only lit up by his or her tft-screen.
Despite the fact that most people have knowledge of the various instruments and are aware of their usage and influence on music history, this is a rare opportunity to listen to the instruments one by one. You will be able to touch them, turn the buttons and experience the interaction between the interface and its acoustic effect. So, if you've always wondered what they're doing up there on stage with all the buttons and machines; this is your chance to do it for yourself.
During the opening hours of the exhibition, various people will be presenting, playing and explaining the sound devices.

Jacob Kirkegaard is a Danish sound artist
producing music and soundscapes with focus on secret sounds. Sounds from
vibrating natural and artificial matter such as ice, earth and
atmospheric disturbances along with human inaccessible signals and
informations. Jacob explores sound from a spacial point of view, creating
installation art, radioplays and music. He is also known for his
collaboration with british Philip Jeck, released on Touch. He works within various genres. His ambient works are full of fragile sounds, containing lo-fi noise and creating new musical universes. His more experimental works are also explorations into the unknown, and they are related to the sonic art tradition.

Captain Comatose are Khan and Snax. Both are not green to the electronic music world. In 2000, the two started recording the first Captain Comatose record for Playhouse. Their first two 12inches became instant club hits.
Many DJ's, including Luke Solomon, Trevor Jackson and Andrew Weatherall, rated them high in theire DJ charts and become huge fans.
In the spring of 2002, Snax and Khan relocated to Berlin. There they put together a live show and word started to spread about their decadent performances. Remixes for Gus Gus, Electronicat, Hanin Elias, Cold Cut and Julee Cruise followed.

softland aka Christof Steinmann creates an uneasy dreamy landscape by juxtaposing long chains of melody with dissonant random bursts of percussion and pulsing, at times ominous. Melodic lofi-electronica. The resulting mix sounds as though it has borrowed its energy from certain classical compositions that have been torn kicking and screaming through a 21st century digital vortex.
S p e z i a l m a t e r i a l
Spezialmaterial has grown from a collective of musicians and visual artists to an international platform and a label for innovative Electronica comparable to e.g. Skam/Warp. SM publications are known for their artwork concepts as well as for managing to bounce in all the right places and being just dark enough to qualify for cinematic approval.
SM3, a double vinyl label compilation including remixes by a.o. Plaid and Team Doyobi has been published in September.

Domizil produce and publish experimental digital music comparable to e.g. Mego. They consider themselves as a platform for artistic coordination, exchange and cooperation, mainly focussing on experimental electronic music. Since their first release in the mid-90s, they went for an exploration of digital culture and its sounds, socio-content and methods.

Welcome to a Ware evening in Copenhagen
Ware schalplatten was founded by Mathias Schaffhäuser in 1997. The musical still is relative abstract, but always original and timeless. Some would say the still is minimal techno, other minimal house. 12 full length records and 29 x 12 have so far been released on Ware. The artist are among others Markus Güntner, Decomposed Subsonic, Hans Nieswandt, Iven Schmidt, Caulfield, Benjamin Brunn, Turismo og Coloma.
http://www.ware-net.de/
Mathias Schaffhäuser have released 4 albums and loads of 12's, on Ware and other Cologne labels. His dj set switches between the minimal Ware sound and speed-garage-fuck-up sounds mixed with clean Force-Inc techno.
Markus Guentner (22) from Regensburg by Münich is one of Germanys upcoming musician. He has released 2 full length records (Ware og Kompakt) and 7 x 12. His music is on loads of compilations and he has been remixed by people like Sven Vaeth. As a dj he plays a funky minimal house.

Hansen & DJ Daniel: Minimal techno Cologne- stille. Releases on Mosaic, Ed Davenport and latest Trapez. The slightly hard sound from the latest releases gets an even harder twist at this combined dj/concert.

OZY
Ozy aka Ornolfur Thorlacius have produced music for the past 9 years. Ozy plays minimal tech music. His main objective is to twist and bend sound to incorporate new and fresh aspects to his tracks. Hence constantly seeking new sounds and ideas, mostly from old records, films and A.M. radio. Influenced by retro car-safety info-mercials and 70's wildlife documentaries, Ozy's fruity offbeat swing and extraordinary rhythm structures are the heart and soul of his compositions. To keep things interesting, Ozy often fuses various elements from other genres of music into his tracks, making use of his diverse production experience. Using stereo microphones he records sounds from everyday life, creating depth and flavor in his detailed work. Not only is Ozy releasing on Thule Records but also on Force Inc, Native (Theory Recordings) and soon on Trapez (Traum) in Cologne.
Ozy's bi-polar taste in music is also featured in his performances, either playing live "robotic lounge funk" or tearing up the floor with svelte minimal tec, keeping the audience on their toes. Having played in global hot-spots like Germany, Australia, France and the UK, Ozy represents the nu-breed of fine electronic music coming out of Iceland.

Taking advantage of the pile of 40 old macs found in the LAB Komponent vaults and combining them with the state of the art F.I.D.S.E. multi channel speaker system, Magnus Wassborg and Tore Nilsson will create "shade" an interreactive sound installation.
"shade" uses speech, musical fragments and allows listening in to sounds derived from the computers themselves, i.e. directly picked up from the data paths, while they are resting, away from the sun.
Magnus Wassborg and Tore Nilsson (Stockholm), work both solo and in different constellations, with video, audio, installations, often computerbased and often using obsolete equipment in the 68K/486 range.

Where is electronica heading?
Here is three versions. Mikkel Hess from Denmark has a humoristic way of approaching the music. Kettel from Holland plays melodic electronica and the older Timeblind from the states has a more experimental approach.
Timeblind
Experimental in approach, lost in sound, but still twitching with rhythm, Timeblind aka Chris Sattinger's music is an exact, high-tech high-resolution rendering of a grainy, noisy, imperfect world.
Timeblind have released records on some of the most interesting American labels. Kit Claytons Orthlorng Musork and Kid 606's Tigerbeat6.

Kettel
This young Duch guy produces the most melodic sounds. Inspired by the great Warp artist, but with his own stile.
Kettel have released on the Duch label dub, with is a part of the great Clone organisation based in Rotterdam, who produces some of the most interesting music in Holland.

A short presentation would be like this:
August Engkilde computer, bass, keyboard
Kruzh'em turntable, drummachine, synth
M_Brain computer, videomixer, efx
Our style is like a mix of elektro, latinjazz, dub and lo-tech with a political a/v input.
We like to improvise our way through the set, it seems to work for us, haha...

Yow, this is Lo-bat. With only two game boys synchronized to each other and a bunch of guitar effects, a remain of my past as a guitar player, I try to make intruding and wild electronic music.
I consider sensitive melodies mixed with rough waves and pounding rhythms as my main territory.
I started using the game boy out of curiosity and fell in love with its brutal and very pure sound.
My interest in electronic music came together with the gameboy.

Sergej Auto [CZ/Sassfee] - audio visual live
Karsten Pflum [DK/Worm Interface Recordings] - live
Bjørn Svin - DJ
The czech artist Sergej Auto was one of last years most interesting live experiences on the electronic scene.
He has released to albums on the German label Saasfee. The music is charming and cheerfull pop-country full of ideas und small melodies with swinging easyness and smart humor. The music shows clear bunds to his earlier career as a trick film musician.
The visuals will be delivered by artist Pink Elln, who also releases on Saasfee
http://www.saasfee.de
23 year old Jacob Helverskov Madsen aka Karsten Pflum is the newest signing from London label, Worm Interface, a legendary small idealistic company, perhaps best known for their Tom Jenkinson 12" from 1996, Bubble and Squeak, but also for the promovation of such artists as Gimmik and Solar X.
Karsten works within the sphere between vital dynamic and complex beats and monotone ambient melodies, often folk or rock influenced. He asks the listener to a cracked-dance, emotional, but with massively technical yet catchy programming. The music is driven in a sort of rhetorical and epic course, always changing direction, but within a clear symmetrical aesthetic field.
Complexity simplified. Pictures of fairytail forests and dreamy hypnotic colours seem to pop up. Karsten Pflum's music has similarities to the genres drill n' ambient and Braindance.
In 2001 he won the Danish Art Foundation's competition Yderligheder, and since he has been rocking in London, Barcelona, Sweden, Berlin, and Norway, as well as in Denmark. He also guested Komponent at the Radar festival in September 2002, playing as Slaphead Faun.
Apart from a few compilation appearances he has released a 7", Der Kleine Pastor, on Snake Eyes, a sublabel to Worm Interface, where his CD album, Tracks, is bound for a release on the 20th of April, so this evening will be a release party where you can buy the record.

workshops at Lab:
During the entire weekend hands-on sessions for the technically minded.
..: Antenna building workshop
Starts saturday at 13:30 (after lunch), and continues throughout the weekend.
Dr Blinov gets the glue gun out once more!
After a good workshop in Berlin recently, here s yet another chance to come and learn about patch antennas, pigtails and cans from the 'yogi of yagis'.
Sebastian will assist, translate english-danish, and throw in the odd bit of RF physics.
We will choose what antennas to build based on the participants input and wishes - that means the result should be an antenna type that then can be used in ongoing projects, private or public - so keep your suggestions coming!
..: the CopenhagenConnectedCycle
Starts saturday at 15:30, and continues throughout the weekend.
We're building a pedal-powered, wireless-enabled networked bicycle.
We've borrowed a beautiful Cycle Taxi from Cykeltaxa (http://www.cykeltaxa.dk).
Equipped with a few batteries, a solar-panel, a Locustworld Meshbox, an antenna and a PDA, this will be a fun Copenhagen speciality, the CopenhagenConnectedCycle.
We'll keep the bike rolling in the streets of Copenhagne throughout March, and hopefully, with the help of sponsors it'll end up being an internet café on wheels for the entire summer...

Mark Van Hoen was born in London in Autumn 1966, and raised in an industrial part of Birmingham, England, growing up with pop music on the radio and the sound of the factories, buses and trains around him. In Early 1979 as a twelve year old, Mark began listening to 70's electronic music including, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Eno, Tubeway Army, The (original) Human League and Cabaret Voltaire. This music inspired Mark to buy his first synthesizer on hire purchase in 1982. He began making music in two different genres (which has remained a common theme). The first was Electronic pop, and the other was darker and more experimental instrumental music. Throughout the 80's he built up a large collection of recordings, some of which were later released on Apollo Records (R&S).
Arriving in London in 1988, Mark became inspired by the acid house movement and the music that swiftly followed; in particular Aphex Twin and other R&S artists, along with LFO and the Warp label. The synthesizers were wired, and Mark Began to make music with more conviction than ever. In 1993, Warp, Rephlex and R&S made offers to sign Mark, and he chose to go with the latter. Deeply immersed in the music of the time, his early releases were brooding, dark electronic affairs which were received with critical and commercial success. Regaining his enthusiasm for vocal-lead music in the mid 90's, Mark decided to turn his Locust project into song-based material, and the instrumental material began to be released release under his own name.
During the mid to late 90's Mark had a very prolific period, releasing two solo albums and two Locust albums, touring with his audio visual shows, the band and producing numerous albums by Scala, and Mojave 3 amongst others. All of these records have received glowing reviews in the press, and more importantly are treasured by listeners all over the world. More recently, Mark left R&S records and has continued his collaboration with Touch for the release of Locust's new album, 'Wrong'. This year, Mark and his company Locust Sound will start a new record label for future MVH and Locust releases.
Mark will be acompagnied by singer Holli Ashton, who was the singer at "Wrong", at the live concert.

Antenne
Copenhagen's Kim G. Hansen is the main man behind the light-but-brooding sounds of Antenne.Their music venture into song/lyric territories of a loungey-electronic vibe kept distinctive by their ghostly sparsity and somber moods. Hardline ambient-purists may feel that Antenne's song-structures bar it from their realm, but their original style produces a definitely subdued side of the electronic music movement. The beautiful voice of Marie-Louise Munck is a perfect counterpoint to the drones, ultra-slow beats and truly original electronic soundscapes.
Antenne's music is best described as sparse, repetitive and minimal, yet this never gets to a point, where one could think this is boring and cold. It bears no resemblance to minimal techno or even minimal music. Warm, brooding atmospheric are terms that fit better.
It's dark and intelligent trip-hop and ambient expressionally open towards a wider audience but still progressive enough to satisfy listeners of experimental electronics.
Antenne has released two albums on the dutch label Korm Plastics/Staalplaat.

Antonelli Electr. combines pop with electronic minimalism. The Duesseldorf musician Stefan Schwander aka Antonelli Electr. knows how to link the rigid structure of electronic music with very personal pop moments. Antonelli Electr. creates an independently unique language of music and means of expression: his own personal digital draft, minimally arranged, slender in aesthetics, hedonistic in attitude, abstract in programming and detailed in sound.
Antonelli Electr. works mainly with sequencers and drum machines; a computer is used only for studio work. Only sequencers and drum machines are used for the live interpretation as well. This minimalist procedure has proved effective over the years and it has been perfected and viewed as a challenge. His way of working is often conceptional and serially motivated, which is reflected in the visual interpretation of his work as well (cover design, live performance, music video).
Antonelli Electr. have released tree albums on the very very slick Cologne label Italic. His new album Love & Other Solutions is out now. It's heading in a slightly more ambient direction, but still always keeps the dancefloor in mind.

Martin Jarl is perhapes most known for his weetabix e.p on Frankfurt based label Konvex/Konkav. A record wich received top reweives all over the exprimental scene and compared him with legends such as Moritz von Oswald and Isoleé. A twelve-inch release on swedish label Mitek will also arrive sometime this spring. His music is known for it`s deepnes and beautiful harmony.
Martin Jarl will be joined by Claudia Bonarelli aka Johan Fotmeijer in a live concert together.
Claudia Bonarelli have released Mitek och Mille Plateaux. Together with Martin he is currently working on a album for the Konvex/Konkav sublabel Resopal. The still of their joint efforts will be pop techno, so be ready for a danceable live experience. They played first time together in their hometown Malmalmö at the first Kontra-musik event, where they together with DJ Sonja Moonear really got the floor moving.

un caddie renverse dans l'herbe, aka didac p lagarriga, has createt his ovn stil of music, which deploys collage and cut n paste on the most experimental end of the electronica spectrum.
He music is based on both simple and highly complex rhythmic structures. He uses a variety of world instruments to create his densely textured music: mbiras, balaphons and even beatbox propel these compositions, sometimes leading, sometimes acting as one of a number of contrasting elements. Like a soundtrack to a dali painting, it doesn't give the listener anything to make sense of: it is a rhizome, with no discernible structure or centre. His music create hypnotic circular spells that unite world and western electronic aesthetics.
His latest album "Some Nenu Songs" is from last year. You can listen to samples here:

It's released on the spanish forum ooze.bãp

Prins Esso is Bjørn Christiansens fairytale pseudonym. The music is a dreaming and metaphoric ambienttechno that plays with melody loops who repeat themselves and interact with each other in a continuously and improvised flow. The melodies Bjørn Christiansen also make more danceable techno music under the pseudonym Bjørn Svin.
Both artist will perform live concerts on the multi speaker system F.I.D.S.E.

Christian Morgenstern [D/Forte, Kanzleramt] - live + DJ Quickstep
A big scope! Christian Morgenstern is coming to town. Morgenstern is one of the most famous Cologne producers with a range of excellent records behind him on Kanzleramt and his own label Forte.
Mainly using vintage equipment and tube amplifiers from the 70s and early 80s he has developed his own, unique style and with the release of "Death before Disko" in 1999, he proved that he is one of the most versatile techno musicians. Followed by this was the super-moody album The Lydia E.P, released end of 1999, which was played by DJs throughout the world. After a little production break, Morgenstern released his highly acclaimed electro-pop album "Hawaii blue" early 2001. This production is heavily influenced by his undeniable affection for 80s pop and rock music, and can be seen as a further step in his development from a techno artist to a musician. As already suggested in previous works, with Hawaii Blue, he nearly totally refused to accept the club- compatibility dogma, and mixes pop tunes with listening tracks and retro-ballads.

An evening with projects by the people behind System F3 [http://www.systemf3.com]
Live: System, Acustic, Dub Tractor og Opiate.
From System F3's pressrelease:
"... Copenhagen, Denmark: For years the trio has been busy producing one great album after another under the moniker "Future 3". While this project, however, over the years turned more and more into popmusic, Thomas Knak (known as well as OPIATE and producer of the important tracks on the recent Björk album "Vespertine"), Anders Remmer (aka Dub Tractor) and Jesper Skaaning (aka Acustic) realised, besides a big variety of other influences, a common love for Dub and the sonic trademarks of this music: Reverb, Echo & Bass. A love which is the core element of their new project "System". However, Dub is transferred into completely new environments and is just a starting point, the smallest common denominator, a always returning reference, the base for a very modern, experimental sound, guided by a love for reduced, warmth full of digital static, motivated by an overwhelming interest for new software tools and driven by the gift of using these new technical possibilities in a very subtle way and integrating them into the sonic spectrum. Let's be honest here: Can you think of musical experiments of that kind which actually have such a flow? ..."

Komponent starts up a new mounthly club at the venue of Basement (earlier Terra Nova). This club will mostly present live experiences with local and foreign artists. The style will be dancefriendly minimal tech house.
At the first event in this new place, we start up with up-cumming islandic artist Ozy and local hero Hansen aka CANT + a jam session between the two. Afterwards, at the turntables you will find DJ Ohm.
Hope you will come and enjoy this first Komponent-U event at Basement.
OZY
Over the years Ozy has become one of the most prominent members of the Icelandic electronic scene and is without doubt one of the country's most dedicated producers. Covering a diverse range of sounds, including electronica, minimal tech and shuffling micro house. Ozy's work is to be found on quality labels such as THULE RECORDS from Iceland, FORCE INC. and Ben Sims' NATIVE label (Theory Recordings).

CANT
CANT is the solo project of Hansen, off Hüebsch Originators fame. Together with Dj Daniel he has put out records on Mosaic, April and Edward Davenport to name a few. The sounds range from minimal Cologne, over dub to banging 80's.
Thorlacius & Lentz
The improvised battle where Ozy takes up the challenge from Hansen. More beat orientated than the solo acts would be a guess of this mix.

Friday night Radar and Komponent has planned a program at LAB which gives the audience a possibility to listen to two artists, signed respectively at the recordcompanies TRAUM [http://www.traumschallplatten.de] and ECHOCORD [http://www.echocord.com], namely Proces (UK) and Mikkel Metal (DK). Furthermore the owners of these companies Triple R (D) and Ned Flanders (DK) will be DJ'ing stuff from their own catalogues, approaching releases and other goodies from the electronic stage.
Proces (TRAUM) aka Steve Barnes belongs to the English minimal electronic dance scene. His beaty as well as non-beaty tracks focuses on timbre as a musical parameter. Process attempts to explore the musics relation to space and built on the heritage from the English electro minimal scene like LFO and Sweet Exorcist.
Mikkel Metal aka Mikkel Meldgaard from Copenhagen has just released two vinyl-records at ECHOCORD which shares the style of Process and also in a minimal way works in a crossfield between dubby techno, ambient, clicks'n'cut and IDM as a starting point.
Mikkel Metal has previously released a record at the Berlin-company 'Hal 9000' and is at the moment working on a release at TRAUM.
As performing DJ's, Triple R aka Riley Reinhold and Ned Flanders aka Kenneth Christiansen, are guarantors that the audience this night will be guided through an exciting soundscape of new sly electronic releases.

Saturday Komponent and Radar presents a packed program including a lot of young Danish electronica composers, but also two Mille Plateaux [http://www.force-inc.com/mp/] artists Thomas Köner (D) [http://www.koener.de] and SND (UK) will be guesting LAB this night.
Multispeakersystem
Free Independent Diffusion Speaker Experience aka F.I.D.S.E.
Komponent has established a large scale of speaker setup at LAB which will give the audience a different experience of sound. Space is integrated in the electronic composition as a musical parameter. Komponent will describe the functionality of the speakersystem. A sample of the speakers capability will be given by LAB's inhouse band --bB and seven electronica-composers from the cambium of Copenhagen which has spent the week up to the Radar event composing music for the F.I.D.S.E. speakersystem. The seven comoposers are:
Slaphead Faun (Jacob Madsen)
- asks the listener to a cracked-dance with his distorted beats and an often furious tempo. His music is related to the genre drill'n'ambient - beats of wild ecstacy, lashing out around some pleasant, soft synthesizer-chords and nice little melodies. Slaphead Faun is a former drummer, and it is obvious that we are dealing with an absolute first class beat-equilibrist.
Orchard (Lars Bo Jandrup)
- produces rare harmonies and melodies containing subtle, tripped beats. He often works on the edge of a groove, and the attentive listener is thus really involved, since the music is permanently in search of a steady rock. Orchard's tracks are characterised by short, crispy machine sounds, cut-up, dashing around the soundscape and creating motion.
Jacob Kirkegaard
- works within various genres. His ambient works are full of fragile sounds, containing lo-fi noise and creating new musical universes. His more experimental works are also explorations into the unknown, and they are related to the sonic art tradition.
Jonas Olesen
- works especially within two fields for the time being, cutting edge and sonic art. Within the former, dainty tracks of fragmented sounds are produced which are both original continuations of Oval-sounds as well as being completely cutting edge sounds. The more experimental sonic art works are darker and more exploratory. Especially the parameters of harmony and texture are searched.
Pixel
- is the Nordic equivalent of Alva Noto. Pixel works in a super tight and minimalistic way with very simple click-beats containing improvised keyboard-sounds. However, a certain amount of jazz has also survived in the music (Pixel is a former saxophone player). In simple, groovy ways Pixel creates an intense atmosphere for the listener.
Rune Søchting
- explores the particularities and possibilities of sounds. The material is developed and manipulated according to the immediate, sensuous quality of each sound. His work is centred around form, sound, texture and substance, explored and manipulated in a universe in constant motion.
txture (Jakob Weigand Goetz)
- From all possible soundsources, he collects fragments that are put together in the compositional process, forming a kind of palimpsest-texture. Loops slowly changing form and colour that are mixed with noisy sounds of reality from the urban melting pot often form the basis of txture's composition. His aim is a kind of 'fluid architecture'.
Else Marie Pade revisited and remixed
In 1958 Else Marie Pade (born 1924) created the first piece of existing Danish electronic music. This 7 minute long piece was remixed this spring by six young electronic composers. By attending the result of these individual composers we will gain an insight into in the various ways of handling a specific composition. The composers are:
Thomas Knak alias Opiate, Christian Vester alias Goodiepal, Ejnar Kanding, Hans Sydow, Jens Hørsving and Bjørn Svin. The six remixes has previously been performed once at the Mix.02 festival in Århus and this second performance at LAB is simultaneously an introduction of the remix-cd released by Resonance.dk [http://resonance.dk] and SeeSound/Museeum of Contemporary Art [http://www.mfsk.dk/] in Roskilde.
For more information about Else Marie Pade, the remix-project, new electronic music and the SeeSound festival see: http://happynewears.com
As earlier mentioned LAB on Saturday night will also be guested by the Mille Plateaux artists Thomas Köner and SND, and in its entirety this evening will be one long underlining that timbre and space as musical parameters (rather than melodic and harmonic) is being explored these years. In terms of genre this evening will contain ambient/illbient, sonic art, drill'n'ambient and beaty pointillism.

It has long been a big wish for Komponent to present Rechenzentrum. And now it's possible together with the Danish newcomer Sofus Forsberg.
The fantastic album "The John Peel Session" from last year says it all. Rechenzentrum just simply makes great music. Rechenzentrum engineer sound design, music and video images into bleak, emotionally complex melodramas where the events are joined in constantly shifting conflict. Sounds and rhythms become protagonists, creating barely resolverd tensions. Live Rechenzentrum takes the audience into a journey from dark industrial drones to minimal dubdy tec house.. it's dancable, but not quite real party music.
Rechenzentrum continues and have just released great new material on Vertical Form and Shitkatapult.

Jenka Music is the name of the new promising Danish electronica label. Their first release is the Danish electronica and modular synth master Sofus Forsberg. A very nice melancholic album that takes all the best from the electronica world and mixes it with the vocal from the beatyfull singer Henriette Sennenveldt (known from the Danish band Under Byen) and saxophone from Niels Bxttcher.
This first release from Jenka Music has already been talked about in the press, and they liked it.
The electronica scene is really upcoming in Denmark, and this album from Sofus Forsberg is definitely one of the reasons behind it.
Sofus Forsberg is a former rock guitarist, but changed the guitar with a labtop, some modular systems and many secret electronic instruments and combinations. Sofus Forsberg is a master in the modular systems and definitely knows his computers.
NO/1° is the debut album of Sofus Forsberg, but it definitely doesn't sound like a debut album.
This is a high quality record that everyone with an electronic taste of music should listen to.

Minimal techno from Canada delivered by Jetone and Algorithm, who both published excellent albums during the last year.
Pellerin and Rasmus Møbius have performed at Komponent before and it is a pleasure to once again present their electronica based music.
Visuals will be delivered by the Effekt Visual System.
Montreal based Jetone aka Tim Hecker has been producing in the realm of electronic music for the past six years. He is exploring the boundries and fault lines between rhythm, texture and melody. While Tim has influences which stem from the hybrids of hip-hop and techno, such as Germany's Wolfgang Voigt and England's Autechre, his textural and melodic inspirations often find comraderie with groups such as My Bloody Valentine and artists such as Christian Fennesz. That is to suggest that the lineages explored in his work have been an attempt to reorganize the digital, without heeding toward empty trajectories of bohemian-like nostalgia for any such pre-digital era. His album"Ultramarin" on Force Inc from last year got great reviews, and its going to be interesting to hear how he will bring his music into a live performance. Jetone has prior releases/tracks on Pitchcadet, FatCat and Tigerbeat6 [ http://www.force-inc.net ]

Algorithm is one of the most interesting technical DJs at the moment. This evening he will manager 3 turntables, and give you a experience equal to his remix-album "Composure", released on Force Lab this year. Composure was designed in a multithread process with a variety of media. The original mixes were composed on Technics 1200's from the vinyl catalog releases. Unreleased material was taken from .wav files and then integrated into the mix. Each track was then discreetly edited into single instruments and loops of various lengths. Then, complimentary versions of loops were resaved with different EQ settings, transitions and effects. Each artist was initially remixed with their own material and then recombined with other artists. Over 300 loops and individual instruments were cut out of the bed mixes and recomposed. At times, 8 different Force Lab artists are layered and combined. For the final process of Composure, multiple variations of combined loops and instruments of various tracks were macrocomposed into primary sequences, continually bounced to larger macrosequences, until the end result emerges as this full length CD.

The summer starts the 8th of June. The German super group
Closer Musik brings the summer to Copenhagen from Cologne.
Closer Musik released their fantastic cd "After love" on Kompakt
this spring. With the record they integrate vocal with
electronic music, and makes magic. This is the sense of music:
The warmness, rhythm, sex and poetry! Get closer! There hasn't
been any better invitation. Whoever has had the pleasure to see
them performing live, e.g. at Studio 672 (Cologne), WMF
(Berlin), Matrix (Zurich), Phonodrome (Hamburg), Ego
(Düsseldorf), Mutek Festival (Montréaal or Golden Pudel Club
(Hamburg) ... will never forget this experience. Endless, long,
promising introductions, a tension full of desire and the two
shy guys behind their deck. Dirk Leyers with his old, bulky
guitar and Matias Aguayo's delicate voice, which reminds a bit
of the first star of electronic music: Alan Vega of Suicide.
The long introductions seem to be necessary in order to
attune the audience slowly to the state of losing gravity.
Welcome to the dimension of freed time! - "Floating free, one,
two, three, eternally, no gravity"...their first "hit" on
Kompakt, the cover with a little astronaut on it, which has
become an underground hit in Germany and beyond and contributed
essentially to re-inspire the minimal and somewhat flavorless
structures of electronic music.
At the moment, you will
notice more and more vocals accompanying the beats. Electronic
music has rediscovered the vocalist, not just sampled or cited,
but as original moment supporting a track. And in the basically
rather untypical club space, there are more and more live acts
performing with real vocalists. Again, Pop has re-invented
itself, but this time in the spirit of electronic music, that is
without the dramaturgy characteristic for pop songs. It is
rather about floating and being carried away with the sound.

Danish electro-punk'sters Geisha are releasing their self-titled
debut-album in the beginning of June 2002, on their own Lucky
Records label; an album consisting of 8 rockin' songs along with
4 music-videos; like their live-gigs, an audio-visual experience
extraordinaire, which music-wise shows a wide range of
influences, among them late 70's punk & new wave, and early 80's
synth-pop and EBM, with the use of an electronic drum kit,
analogue keyboards, trashy vocals and twanging guitars, not to
mention the dark and sexy vocal performances by Miss Pipaluk of
Danish female artpunk-duo Supernova. In the autumn of 2001 the
band visited New York to play live gigs, check out the local
bands, and do a video-documentary about rock n'roll life in The
Big Apple.
Members of the band have now relocated to
Berlin, to work on a small European tour. The Danish fashion
company Munji, will release the band'(s)hit- single "Close to
you" early autumn 2002 on their newly started record label Punk
Royal Records. For further information, log on to their website
www.geishaband.com, with soon will be running sharp.
The Effekt DJ Team: Møbius & Mylleager, will back to back
give you an opportunity to enjoy some good music after the concerts.
Møbius & Mylleager have previously played at a Komponent event,

This evening's special feature is: "moon of venus, part IV", by Burkhard Stangl (efzeg)
efzeg's work incorporates acoustic, electro-acoustic, and machine made sounds together with visuals in an improvised context. Saxophone peeps, guitar strums, the flutter and buzz of electric motors, and sine wave approximations is combined into a music, which is full of details, micro sounds, screechings, and abrasive soundscapes. The live audio signals serve as source for visual improvisations, with which efzeg wishes to transform the audible cosmos into the visual.
efzeg's second album 'boogie' is soon to be released on the German label GROB. Their first album 'grain' (durian) was well received in USA, Canada, Australia/NZ as well as in Europe.
Brief bios
Saxophonist Boris Hauf is the founder of efzeg. He has studied at conservatories in London and Vienna and plays with other elctroacoustic bands. Wellknown as a member of Fuckhead who had a notorious CD on Mego in 1998.
Billy Roisz works with copy-art, illustration, fotos, performance, video & sound. As a videoimprovisor she exploits abstract forms and feedback, and at points in a quite minimalistic way. She often works in close connection to a parallell audio performance.
Guitarist Martin Siewert has worked with other electro-oriented musicians such as Wayne Horvitz, Werner Dafeldecker and Taku Sugimoto. Besides working with remixes and sound installations, he concentrates on deconstructing the electric guitar and expanding its sonic possibilities.
Guitarist Burkhard Stangl, is associated with the minimalist jazz/new music ensembles Polwechsel and TonArt He has also worked with other sound seekers like John Butcher, Jim O'Rourke, Sugimoto and Dafeldecker.
Turntablist Dieb13 (Dieter Kovacic), a copyright-objector who has spent more than a decade turning cassette players, vinyl, CDs and hard drives into instruments.

Datanom is proud to announce the release of a brand new booklet
entitled THE AESTHETICS OF NOISE and written by Torben Sangild.
The author takes a philosophical approach to the concept of noise in music and noise as music. With examples from both the noise rock of the 1980s and the harsh noise of the 1990s, the author draws a line to the experimental electronic music of the 2000s.
Torben Sangild is a PhD-student at the University of Copenhagen. He has written various articles in the field of art, music, literature and philosophy. The booklet is based on his MA-thesis, Støjrock og Støjens æstetik.
The presentation will be accompanied by a bar and some sweet noises served by the author and the editor.
Datanom offers a valuable consumer packet where you get the booklet, the sweet noises and the concert for only 40 Danish datakroner (before 22.00).

This evening Komponent looks across to the other side of Øresund. Sweden has many interesting artists experimenting with electronic music. From Stockholm comes Hazard, and from Malmö All Spec Kit. They have both released material on respecteble labels and it will be interesting to see the potential of our neighbours this evening.
Hazard aka Benny Nielsen has several releases on the well known
experimental British label Ash International, which also represents names
like Scanner, Bruce Gilbert and Bernd Friedman
[http://www.ashinternational.com].
Benny has played music since he was 15, and has appeared as Hazard since 1996.
His music is influenced by the sounds of extreme weather conditions and
its effect on humans, the sound of nature, field recordings, and the
perception of time and space as experienced through sound

Main is a project combining the aesthetics of ambient music with layered
tapestries of droning electric guitar textures and dark, ominous soundscapes
with industrial intensity and atmospheric minimalism to the furthest extremes.
By filtering frequencies and using extremes of sustain and distortion, Main has
conjured up wholly new noises from its instruments - these are guitars that don't
sound like guitars, that don't sound like anything you could name. Main is a
former member of the famous British trance-rock quartet Loop that was
dissolved in 1991.
Main has made several remarkable releases on Beggers Banquet.

Oren Ambarchi is a Sydney-based musician with a longstanding interest in
transcending conventional instrumental approaches. Noise, pop, improvisation,
games and somewhat extreme live performances have all played a role in
Ambarchi's active career, and he has worked with artists as diverse as Keith
Rowe, Christian Fennesz, Sachiko M and Phill Niblock.
Ambarchi's compositions, which often begins in abstraction with seemingly random and irregular pulses and tones that later converge and coalesce, holds the listener suspended in dense
tonal fields or complete silence; adrift, never touching the bottom, never
reaching the surface but continually held in the realm of the instant. Oren
Ambarchi is releasing on the record company Touch.

The Effekt Visual System is the future in sound visualisation. The inventors,
Stefan Mylleager and Kasper Daugaard, have already proved the success of the Effekt Visual System by winning an international competition. In May
2001 Warp Records and Squarepusher challenged anyone to animate a track of their choice
from the new "Go Plastic" album. Stefan and Kasper chose the number "Exploding
Psychology" and won [http://www.warprecords.com/goplastic/]. Later on they supplied live video to a Warp party in London.
This evening will be the premiére of a live performance using the possibilities
of the Effekt Visual System combined with live music.
The live music will be delivered by young Danish and Finish artists.
Rasmus Møbius (DK) plays dubb inspired electronica
Lars Pellarin (DK/Couchblip) plays elegant elctronica, which brings reminders
to Warp artist Boards of Canada. Lars has already performed live once
at Komponent (Komponent 13), and it is a pleasure to have him back. He has earlier released a track on a compilation cd for the Australian label
Couchblib
[ http://www.couchblip.com/],
and is soon to release his debut cd Tangible
Abstractions. Music sample: [ http://www.pellarin.couchblip.com/]
MD aka Jaakko Manninen (SF/Merck Records) is based in the more
percussion orientated part of electronica. He has released on the Finish label
Merck Records [http://www.m3rck.net]. Music samples: [http://kschzt.com/amp.html/]
Before the show there will be a short introduction to the Effekt Visual System
and its possibilities by one of the developers, Lasse Nielsen.
About the Effekt Visual System.
The Effekt software has been under development for about a year, and
is now ready for a test flight. It is a tool for delivering synchronized
real-time rendered visuals for music, operated by one or more persons.
Effekt makes it possible to design and mix the visuals live, much in the
same way as musicians play. That is, start with a rough idea about what to
do and when, but improvise during the set, and make the visuals fit the
direction of the music.
This is achieved by a very open-ended software based on a lightweight
framework with a plug-in architecture. The interface resembles the likes
of buzz, reaktor and maxMSP, where different plug-ins are placed on a canvas
and connected by threads of data. This very open structure makes room for
experimenting and improvising, often achieving unpredicted results.
The Technique
The initial requirements for the software (dubbed Effekt) were quite
harsh: The system should be kept as generic and scalable as possible,
had to be stable (and or have fallback mechanisms) and be able to run
on relatively inexpensive hardware.
To achieve the first goal, Effekt was constructed as a fairly
lightweight framework only capable of handling almost entirely
autonomous components (plug-ins) that deliver the visual output. The
framework was divided into two main parts: A sequencer and a rendering
client. In any one Effekt setup, only one sequencer will be present at
any one time. The sequencer is the part of Effekt that is responsible for
all user interaction. This is where components are connected via input
and output slots, and where duration, initial time and drawing sequence
of clusters of components (known as 'effects') are controlled by the
user. The rendering client on the other hand is in charge of performing
the actual calculations:
processing of sound and midi data and rendering of the final visuals.
Though the sequencer and the rendering client are capable of running on
the same computer, this is primarily used for editing and previewing.
Since the beginning of the Effekt project, a primary goal has been to
create this system so that it is capable of running on multiple
machines; thus all communication between the sequencer and the rendering
client is performed via a local area network, even when running on the
same computer. This structure enables the Effekt sequencer to easily
control multiple rendering clients at the same time.

PLACE: LAB, Vesterbrogade 107b, baghuset, CPH V
ENTRANCE: Kr. 30,-
Komponent is proud to present the New York based art group 242.pilots.
242.pilots is an international video improvisation ensemble. The 3 artist HC Gilje from Norway, Lukasz Lysakowski from Poland and Kurt Ralske from USA are using their own custom designed software in their performance. They do real-time audio-video improvisation, as soloists and as a trio during the performance. In group improvisation the three artist respond and interact with each other. The end product is a complex visual conversation: a quasi-narrative exploring degree of abstraction, mytho-poetic elements, the nature of the sign, synaesthesia and a raw retinal delight.
The New York Times praised their "compelling, ingenious alliance of sound and motion" and their "technological wizardry" in a review of Kurt Ralske Lukasz Lysakowski video performance at Merce Cunningham Studio, New York, December the 8th. 2001.
Some of their newer work also explores the uncharted territory of simultaneous audio/visual improvisation. Improvised audio might be used to generate video output, or improvised video might be used to generate audio.
242.pilots have collaborated with Kit Clayton, Kid606, Tortoise, DJ Spooky, and Francisco Lopez. They have performed in museums and galleries in New York, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Brussels, and at Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art + Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.
The performance:
1st. half of the performance is a series of solos from Gilje, Ralske and Lysakowski. Each pilot provides his own music, usually as part of a simultaneous audio-video improvisation. 2nd. half is a trio: The video output from each pilot is layered or combined into one seamless whole. Music for the trio section is provided live by guest musician Tordis Berstrand.
Info about the artists:
HC Gilje is a media artist who uses video ina wide variety of ways: In installation works, as sceneograhy for dance and theatre performances, and in a live improvised context. He recently completed a one-year artist's residency at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. The catalog for his recent exhibition "Shadow Grounds" is published by Verlag Berlin.
Kurt Ralske is a Manhattan-based composer and video artist. He has performed real-time video improvisation in collaboration with DJ Spooky, Tortoise, Kid606 and Francisco Lopez, and performed as a solo artist at Los Angeles Museum Of Contemporary Art and the World Wide Video Festival in Amsterdam. As a composer he has released 8 cd's on labels such as Sony Music and 4AD, the most recent being the audio/video cd-rom "amor.0+01" available on the Belgian label SubRosa.
Lukasz Lysakowski is a video artist exploring rea-time video improvisation. He has colloborated with electronic musicians such as Kid606, Richard Devine and Kit Clayton. Recent performances have been at the Montral International Festival of Film and New Media, and at Steim in Amsterdam. He currently resides in New York.

SEED MOUTH
SEEDMOUTH is the name of solo works created/played by Hirohito Taneguchi.
He was born in Toyama, Japan on July 1962. He suddenly started writing
music just for self-expression in 1976 and has been making free
and experimental music in its unique style. SEEDMOUTH released its
1st issue in 1981. It was absolutely noisy and even contemporary.
After 7 years silence, he decided to compile his own sound works
into a ficticious omnibus tape named 'Compilation of "KASU"'.
SEEDMOUTH always makes an original noise, ambient and free music.
The music is experimental and mysterious enough. [www.incl.ne.jp/tane/]
From the "Aaalborg Noise Jihad"-crew:
Wäldchengarten
The sound is an intriguing mix of harsh noises, ambient rumbling & somewhat "vocal". The different layers in the sounds develop independent of each other & creates a tickling feeling down your back. Heavy droning, monotonous yet complicated. In short: Super kool egdy ambient! This is what Vital (Staalplaat's online magazine --> [http://staalplaat.com] ) writes: This is one of those strange things which are hard to describe. Waldchengarten are one Dennis and Lars from Danmark who produce a two sides of heavily distorted music but then again remain on the edge of drone music with their distortions with a far away cry of a piano (or maybe the original source?) in the nearby distance. Very dark music and hardly ambient or industrial, this operates on it's own terrain. Rock music without drums, ambient without environment, industrial without fuzz. You catch my drift? Strange, but sort of alright. (FdW) (Vital Weekly nr. 265 Week 10)
Soviet Subliminal Seduction
Innovative electronica feeding on anything from cheesy pop to crude
harsh noise and has a strong tendency to move fast and erraticly.
Fast, slow, loud, subdued, off-beat, straight, melodic, noisy -
zapping like an impatient TV-junkie that can't decide on anything.
This sonic mindbender spews twisted skronk, that has sweept loads
of Gescom, Aphex Twin and Atari Teenage Riot fans off their feet.

Manitoba (CAN/The Leaf Label) - Live
DJ Quickstep & Resident DJ Stoej
Manitoba has been described as a combination of Boards of Canada, Jim O'Rouke, Ornette Coleman and Plaid. His debut album,'Start Breaking My Heart', is spliced with arcs of rainbow melody, hopscotch percussion patterns, and playground children laughing. Humanity and nature are strong threads through this album: beauty and mystery are revealed in the mundane and ordinary. Manitoba aka Dan Snaith plays guitars and keyboards, preferring to record a melody straight up than sample someone else´s, combining these basic elements with computer trickery. It gives the album an electronic/organic feel, warm but with a slightly uptight twitch.
Manitoba's album is released on The Leaf Label and have reseived extraordinary god reviews in international music magazines. Have a look at the
site: [www.posteverything.com/artists/release.php?id=134] for more info, and to listen to some of the great songs from the album "Start Breaking My Heart".

Artificial Paradises (UK)
Audio/video computer performance
About the Work
Within the self-created genre, that of the 'physical digital', Artificial Paradises is the first total system for cross-media data generation re-working the computer as a symphonic balletic environment system (as a body without organs).
Artificial Paradises returns the computer to its true architecture and systematics made evident and visible rather than divided up according to the needs of capitalist economics (multiple discordant applications and file formats existing in dead time - waiting for automated human input). Against this we propose the unlimited, the future and the true artistic use of technological structures.
The system premiered in performance with three protaganists at the Interferences festival in Belfort, France in December 2000 and has since been
performed at Siggraph01 in Los Angeles, as well as at several London venues.
Most of the hardware is custom-built and all software which the system runs is custom coded in C and assembly under the GPL licence.
About the Artists
Artificial Paradises was founded by Martin Howse in 1998 to investigate the future development of technological-systems-art using new descriptive means and functions in software and hardware fields and the wider political arena. Artificial Paradises is active in the creation of open physical digital systems and is involved in the free software movement and peer-to-peer networking technologies.
Artificial Paradises could be understood as undertaking ongoing research and development within the performative sense of the revolutionary system-nature of technology. Current research is focused on the fields of quantum computing, semiconductor physics, geology and low level computer viruses. Artificial Paradises aims towards the liberation of data generation from an imposed model and architecture (or any fixed operating system in its widest sense).
Artificial Paradises works with various individuals. during phase one, and within the current performance manifestation, these individuals include Kirsten Reynolds controlling the video subsection, Rupert Cole working with the sound modules, Martin Howse programming, and, on rare occasions, Jonathan Kemp aka. stutterer providing video module input.
The performance
Artificial Paradises will each evening make two & hour performances. In-between there will be DJs preforming.

KOMPONENT 11; VIDEOPERSPECTIVE is the first in a series of events addressing video as medium and technology. The aim is to discuss relevant aspects of video technology, which will be approached from different angles and in various forms.
The current event will look at video in the context of fine art, and will feature three talks and two screening programs.
***Please note*** The talks will be in Danish!
TALKS BY:
Jørgen Michaelsen: 'Can media art contribute to the fiasco of conceptual art?'

Helle Bach Rungø: 'The theatre of the self - video art in a subject-theoretical optic'
Helle Bach Rungø is writing her Mag.art. thesis in art history at the University of Copenhagen. She has previously studied at Courtauld Institute of Art (London) and at Universita De La Sapienza (Rom).
Torben Søborg: 'Video and media art: technologies and tendencies'

In the following text the terms used, have already been defined by KOMPONENT. These can be seen at the bottom of the page.
The event comprised a debate, and a tour of art sites on the net.
Debate
The invited guests presented themselves and their views of internet-based art. After that there was a debate with the audience, in which art on the internet and its possibilities was discussed. The following is a short résumé of what was discussed.
Art has always been inspired by and had its foundation in the technological development. Where early internet art was more like traditional art shown on the internet, net art has now become a natural development of contemporary art, where the visual dimension is dominant. The social aspect is changing with net art. You can communicate in a field that is only governed by the ones participating, and the communication between the user and the artist is different. The user often has the possibility to adapt the work as it is not necessarily completed by the artist.
It was the experience of the participants that only public institutions support net art. Electrohype had for example attempted to market themselves to various companies but everyone from Apple to the local electrician turned them down saying that Electrohype didn’t fit into their concept. It was pointed out that artists and open source programmers have the possibility to live off the spin-offs of their work, possibly as advisers in their own art work/programme. The conclusion, however, was that the driving force in net art must be the interest, as net art does not offer any direct possibilities to profit.
Eric Steven Raymond has written a series of essays on open source and the possibilities to profit from it. These can be found at: [www.tuxedo.org/~esr/].

Event-description
The DebatBar will discuss how art and its conditions develop with the extension of the internet. More and faster internet-connections with increased copying-facilities, offer people the opportunity to experience art work without having to pay the artist. What possibilities does this give the individual artist and art in general? KOMPONENT has invited some people to discuss the question.
Martin Pingel, Danmarks Designskole [www.n2art.nu www.artnode.dk]
Peter Toft, foreman for SSLUG (Sjælland og Skåne Linux User Group) [www.sslug.dk] open source writer/programmer
Claus Tømrer Pedersen, DIEM (Danish Institute for Electro-acoustic Music) [www.diem.dk], musician with experience in the sale of music through the internet [www.karma.dk]
David Pettersson, Paradiso [www.paradiso.nu], film and music distribution company
Carl Henrik Svendstedt, Malmö Högskola K3 [www.skiften.com]
Esben and Sean, the artist collective Superflex [www.superflex.dk], who also run the net-tv station Superchannel [www.superchannel.org]
The theme of the event is three questions about the (im)possibilities of art on-line. How can internet democratise art; what earning possibilities do artists have; to what degree will new art forms and ways of perceiving art arise?
Starting with these questions, the participants will each make a 5-min. presentation. There will then be a discussion between the participants, to which the audience is welcome to contribute. Afterwards, the participants will show art sites on the internet projected on screen.
Definitions:
Intellectual property rights:
The name of the artist must follow the artwork, and there must be no alteration of the work without prior consent by the artist.
Copyright:
The artist has the right to receive remuneration for use of his/her artwork. The price is usually predetermined and paid in advance.
ShareWare Art:
Art that can be downloaded and paid for if the user is satisfied with the product. Requires moral rectitude.
Open Source Art:
The possibility to alter a work of art without the prior consent of the artist, and in the same way not credit the artist for his/her work.

ZANSTONES LIVE
+ Jørgen Teller and Harald Viuff (DK)
TIME: 27th October 2000, 20.00 hrs.
PLACE: LAB, Vesterbrogade 107b, baghuset, CPH V
EVENT: Live concert
Zanstones is a solo-project from the American Zan Hoffman, possibly the leading exponent of the global 'home-taping'-movement.
'Home-taping'or 'cassette culture', is a global network of experimental underground musicians and sound artists, who since the start of the 1980's have been mainly active in non-commercial music connections. It is a spectrum that includes everything from the happiest amateur-pop to the blackest noise experiments.
Part of the philosophy of this informal movement, has always been a strong cooperation across all boundaries and established conventions, to help spread non-commercial music. This can be seen in the myriad of cooperations, musical cross-fertilisations and releases on each other’s labels, recorded and released “at home” by the involved artists. This often gives the music a certain intimate character, that one rarely finds on the larger labels. An intimacy that connects the private with the global (and in many ways predates the democratic network-multiculture of the internet), because in the global village everyone has the possibility to express themselves, even with limited resources.
Zan Hoffman, more than anyone, can be said to have nurtured the small-is-beautiful-concept more intensely and varied than anyone else. Even though, the preferred media for self-publication today, must be the CD-R, Zan Hoffman still uses home-taping, the name giver and workhorse of the cassette-culture, the good old cassette tape. He has released over 600 of his works from projects he has been involved in, on his own cassette label, zidzic, since its start in 1983. Projects with names such as 'Creamy Porn Stars'(loop experiments), Zanoisect (noise), Body Cocktail (song-writing)
Zan Hoffman will be at LAB with his own Zanstones. He will present a site-specific work that uses sounds and impressions from his stay in Copenhagen. Afterwards he will demonstrate how to write a pop-song 'on the spot', as Mr. Body Cocktail.
Finally, Zan will improvise with two of our local avant-garde musicians, Jørgen Teller and Harald Viuff, who are also old veterans from the experimental underground scene. It will be an evening out of the ordinary, and there will be a rare opportunity to see some of the musicians who create the foundations for new musical trends.

RASMUS LUNDING LIVE
TIME: 23th July 2000
PLACE: LAB, Vesterbrogade 107b, baghuset, CPH V
EVENT: Live Electronic duo
For the first time, it will be possible to experience the esoteric, eclectic duo Phonometrics. Two of the most eccentric personalities of the electro-acostic music will challenge each other in a live electronic set-up, based on a custom-built electronic foundation of noise, discipline and anarchy in equal parts. Samartzis and Lunding met for the first time at the annual summer meeting for Freestyle granulating in Budapest, Hungary 1998. Since then, Samartzis has been host for among other things R. B. Lunding’s compositions at the Immersion festival in Melbourne 1999. Now, their powers will be united in sonic scrutinies rarely heard before.
Philip Samartzis (Australia), ambient sound-artist, has several releases behind him. He often performs solo and in various formations, in Australia as Ph2 with Philip Brophy, in France as Atomic Fuzz with Thomas Couzinier, and has recently been performing in Japan with Merzbow, KK Null, Otomo Yoshidi etc. In his spare time he lectures in Sound and MultiMedia at the Melbourne University.
Rasmus B. Lunding (Århus) postpunk composer and freestyle-musician, has performed and released elektro-acoustic music in Japan, Australia, USA and Jutland, and has previously played in Picnic, Encore + Grande, P. Talk by Torben Sangild: 'The Aesthetics of Noise'
Torben Sangild is a PhD at the Institute of Comparative Literature and Modern Culture at the University of Copenhagen. In his talk he will pin down noise as a phenomenon in a historical, aesthetic, psychological and philosophical context, ending with its position in electronic music. Sangild comments on his talk: “noise has traditionally been a stranger to music, something to be avoided, that which separated music from other sounds. During the 20th Century, noise was gradually incorporated into music. This led to many different expressions, which have the common characteristic that they played on the impurity of noise.
Talk by Robert Henke (Monolake): 'Error: file not found - the concept and development of the Monolake live performance software.'
Henke takes as his point of departure his own music and software productions. He comments on his talk: ‘I will talk about the general problems of performing music which has been created in a studio, live on stage, about improvisation and conceptual aspects, and I will explain in detail what I do with my laptop on stage’. Robert Henke has published many projects on his own label Imbalance Computer Music and on Chain Reaction’.
Live:
Florian Hecker is based at Mego in Vienna, and has established the mp3-record label [www.fals.ch]. He is uncompromising in his sound, which is static, noisy, and intense. Hecker has released a fantastic cd on the English label TOUCH Records, that is an extension of his first cd on Mego “IT ISO161975”. On his latest cd, "[R*] ISO/ Chall" - Mego nr. 024, Jim O'Rourke, Ilpo Vdisdnen (Pan Sonic), and Autechre among others, have treated Heckers sound files.
Live:
Monolake [www.monolake.de] plays live, with supplementary live video mixing by his partner Alex Parlya. A collaboration that has its source in Monolake’s training as a sound engineer at the Potsdam Filmschool, outside Berlin. Monolake’s music moves from musici concreti to techno and ambient, with intense progressive rhythmic constellations.
Musikboksen:
Cube and Sphere is a collaboration between the electronic godfathers Gerhard Potuznik and Hans Platzgumer. They both operate freely in the field of rock, pop, techno, and noise. They sing, play guitar, and manoeuvre the Powerbook sublimely. At the concert, they will play an extract from the Concorde+ project. They have invited Dr Nachtstrom, who is also from Vienna with Mego as his base. [www.diskob.com] [www.mego.at] [www.hansplatzgumer.de]

Four people from different areas have in advance been given a box of LegoMindstorms to investigate and experiment with. At the event the results will be presented and the participants will talk about what possibilities and limitations they experience that this simple robot technology holds. [www.legomindstorm.com]
Ole Caprani:

music in thought and technology
THEME: The relationship between electronics and the last centuries music-historical development
DATO/TID: lørdag 22. januar 2000, kl. 14.00
STED: LAB, Vesterbrogade 107 b, baghuset
ARRANGØR: Kristian Vester for Komponent
FORM: foredrag
DELTAGERE:
Jørgen I. Jensen (musikfilosof)
Carl Bergstøm Nielsen (komponist)
Vagn E. Olsson (komponist)
T.S. Høeg (komponist)
Jens Jakobsen (ingeniør)
Komponent 01 has invited the musician Kristian Vester to mould an event around the current theme. Kristian Vester has worked with electronic music both in an avant-garde influenced music scene, and in the popular culture-scene that the techno-environment has constituted since the end of the 80's. He has been involved in the techno-orientated label, Multiplex [www.multiplex.dk], and avant-garde projects, such as f. ex. 'The Horse doctor'.
Kristian Vester will use the event to give a theoretical overview of the music-technical breaks and changes, during the last century. He has invited five musicians, theoreticians, and engineers, who each have a personal and involved view of the subject.
Jørgen I. Jensen:
Jørgen I. Jensen wrote the first book on Per Nørgård a long time ago, and has through a long activity since the mid ’60’s, earned a reputation as one of Denmark’s most important musical philosophers.
Carl Bergstrøm-Nielsen:
Carl Bergstrøm-Nielsen is Denmark’s only official pupil of Stockhausen. After a meeting with the German composer in the start of the 70’s he created the Danish Intuitive Music Group, which is still active. Since then, he has developed his own intuitive music style, and is today something quite unique in Denmark.
Vagn E. Olsson:
Vagn E. Olsson started his career in the early Copenhagen punk scene, but quickly dropped out to devote himself to his music score. During the years he has developed his own view of things. Today, he stands as one of the youngest in a series of Danish composers, who have their start in Carl Nielsen and stretch across Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgren and Niels Viggo Bentzon, up to the present day.
T.S. Høeg:
The Danish eccentric, T.S. Høeg, has never really found his final position in the Danish soil, and he refuses to categorise himself. He has many publications in the form of books and albums behind, and he is one of the most original figures we have had in Denmark for a very long time.
Jens Jacobsen:
Originally trained as an engineer, Jens Jacobsen has, since his employment in DIEM (Danish Institute for Electroacoustic Music) [www.daimi.au.dk/~diem], stood for the development of everything that can be called contemporated musical equipment. Jens Jacobsen is the originator of the project Digital Dance System [hjem.get2net.dk/diem/products.html]. Here dancers are supplied with sensors attached to their bodies. The sensors transform their movements into sound.
FOOD AND BAR:
Food by Katja Dollerup
Winebar Rosforth & Rosforth
Cafe by Joachim Randrup
Personl evaluation of the event:
Komponent 01 showed that the ‘højskole’ is not dead. The informative, collective lecture and conversation can still be interesting in a scene that is otherwise influenced by cool electronic music and cool snappy comebacks. That it showed possible to run talks for 5-6 hours made the whole thing worth while. But it would probably have been a good idea with a few more breaks, a bit more music and a more precisely defined programme. Regarding the content, the chronology stopped around 1968 as usual, and the last stretch of the electronic path, between Kraftwerk, Detroit and Rephlex, was missing. This was maybe what Christian Vester himself should have talked about?
